This role also carries day-to-day portfolio coordination and requirements-related responsibilities as part of a broadened scope of operational ownership within Design.

As the organization evolves toward AI-native product development, the Design Manager helps the team adapt to changing ways of working while maintaining consistency and alignment across the Design portfolio. This includes helping teams apply shared Design practices, standards, and the design system in ways that create coherent experiences and enable Design to work effectively at scale.

Responsibilities

As a Design leader and operational partner, you'll be asked to handle responsibilities including:

  • Operational Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership for the Design organization, ensuring work is appropriately staffed, prioritized, and progressing.
  • Monitor team capacity, workload, priorities, and commitments across the portfolio; identify risks, conflicts, and resource gaps and work with partners to resolve them.
  • Establish clarity around what the team is working on, why it matters, and what is needed to move work forward.
  • Serve as a working backstop on day-to-day projects, stepping in to execute Design work directly when capacity constraints or urgent timelines require it.
  • Help designers and cross-functional partners navigate shifting priorities, dependencies, and competing demands.
  • Improve team processes, tools, and ways of working to support efficient, high-quality Design delivery.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to improve how Design work flows through product development and ensure Design is effectively integrated into planning, prioritization, and delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce friction, improve collaboration, and make Design easier to engage and work with.
  • Help establish and reinforce shared Design practices, standards, and expectations across the organization.
  • People and Capability Leadership
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop the team, creating an environment where people can do meaningful work and grow their capabilities.
  • Provide clear expectations, regular feedback, performance management, and career development support.
  • Identify individual and team capability gaps and create opportunities for learning, experimentation, and application through real work.
  • Support designers in developing the skills needed to work effectively in an AI-native product development environment, including new tools, techniques, and ways of working.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, continuous learning, collaboration, accountability, and adaptability.
  • Build a strong, inclusive team culture across geographic and organizational boundaries.
  • Recruit and retain strong Design talent and contribute to staffing and organizational planning.
  • Recognize and develop emerging leaders and help create opportunities for team members to expand their impact.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership and Partnership
  • Build strong working relationships with Product, Engineering, and other business partners, facilitating effective collaboration and creating clarity around responsibilities and expectations.
  • Represent Design in cross-functional planning and prioritization conversations, helping partners understand Design capacity, needs, dependencies, and tradeoffs.
  • Bring the Design perspective to cross-functional discussions, ensuring customer needs and experience considerations are represented in product decisions.
  • Communicate Design priorities, progress, risks, and opportunities clearly to leaders and cross-functional partners.
  • Design Practice and Organizational Evolution
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Experience Design organization, its operating model, shared practices, and standards.
  • Help advance a consistent, scalable approach to Design across products and teams.
  • Support the continued development and adoption of the organization's design system, patterns, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Contribute to documentation of workflows, processes, and decision points that support consistent execution across the Design portfolio, and provide input into prioritization and sequencing of work.
  • Stay current with emerging Design practices, AI capabilities, and approaches to AI-native product development and help translate relevant opportunities into practical team practices.
  • Model adaptability and help the team successfully navigate changes in tools, processes, technology, and organizational priorities.
  • Hire, develop, coach, lead and retain top-tier talent, with a focus on building and improving a team and culture that is able to assist in employing best in class practices to support and drive high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
