Overview

The Cotiviti Retail division is seeking an experienced Principal Architect to lead and shape modern AI driven solutions/architecture across Retail platforms, data, and technologies. The role works independently with senior stakeholders and development teams to drive architectural consistency, quality, and successful delivery at scale.

 

We are looking for a special individual who is not only technically sound but who also has experience in retail and financial systems.  This individual should also be curious and interested in learning our unique and results-oriented business.

 

Provide architectural leadership and guidance for Retail BU, aligning solution development efforts with the broader architectural vision and roadmap. Skills and knowledge must include multiple domains (Application/Solution architecture, Technical/Infrastructure architecture, Information/Data architecture), and experience with relevant implementation technology, platforms, and tools. As a leader, the Principal Architect is expected to influence the assigned organization and work independently with senior business and IT leaders, while acting as a mentor and role model within the development teams. The Principal Architect is accountable for successful implementation of architecture in their assigned organization/teams, which requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work with developers of differing skill levels, and the ability to recognize, surface, and resolve architectural issues in a collaborative manner.

Responsibilities

  • Operates with portfolio‑level accountability, influencing architecture across multiple platforms and mentoring developers/engineers, while partnering directly with senior Ops and Technology leadership.
  • Lead the translation of Cotiviti Retail business and product strategy into scalable solution architectures and multi‑year technology roadmaps, partnering with other architects to ensure alignment across audit platforms, data products, and analytical services.
  • Drive execution of the Retail technology vision through ownership of architecture and platform roadmaps, balancing short‑term delivery needs with long‑term modernization and scalability objectives.
  • Develop and evangelize a technology vision, informed by emerging IT, data, AI, and business trends, and grounded in Cotiviti’s audit, analytics, and client‑delivery priorities.
  • Evaluate new technologies, external platforms, and architectural patterns for applicability to product roadmaps, including audit workflow modernization, data onboarding, analytics, and AI enablement.
  • Enable business unit and product teams to achieve outcomes in an economical, scalable, and supportable manner, ensuring solutions are cloud‑ready, data‑driven, and aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Manage technology risk across the portfolio by overseeing technical debt, security, audit, and compliance considerations, and guiding investment decisions to balance innovation with stability.
  • Establish, maintain, and evolve technology standards and reference architectures, ensuring consistency across platforms while allowing flexibility to support differentiated product needs.
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in at least two IT disciplines (such as Application/solution architecture, Technical/Infrastructure architecture, Information/Data Architecture & Business Architecture) in a multitier enterprise environment.
  • Experience and understanding of Procure to Pay and Financial Systems processes a plus.
  • 5+ Years experience with large scale Retail, Supply Chain, ERP systems
  • 5+ years architecture & software design.
  • 5+ years leading development or product management teams.
  • 5+ years working in a global resource model.
  • 2+ years of cross cultural experience.
  • 2+ years working in an Agile Model.
  • Experience leveraging continuous delivery practices to bring value to the business.
  • Experience with multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Firsthand experience with designing and building highly-available, mission critical large scale web applications in both front end and back end.
  • Ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
  • Ability to balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions.
  • Ability to translate business needs into architecture requirements.
  • Ability to articulate advanced technical topics to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to articulate business issues/concerns with staff, peers, superiors, and outside parties (e.g.vendors, partners).
  • Ability to apply multiple solutions to business problems.
  • Prior hands-on experience with multiple programming languages.
  • Prior hands-on experience with greenfield software development.
  • Ability to estimate the financial impact of architecture alternatives.
  • Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
  • Understanding of the political climate of the enterprise and how to navigate the politics.
  • Ability to influence with impact and lead across matrixed organizations.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with basic graphical modeling approaches.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.

  • After hours / weekend work required where necessary for major deliverables/deadlines (rarely).
  • Must have flexibility and willingness to participate in the work processes of an international organization, including conference calls scheduled to accommodate global time zones.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

Base compensation ranges from $160,000 to $185,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is eligible for discretionary bonus consideration.
