Overview

The Scrum Master II is a skilled Agile practitioner who facilitates, coaches, and empowers cross-functional development teams within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). Acting as a servant leader, the Scrum Master II fosters Agile best practices, promotes team self-organization, and removes impediments to ensure the team’s success. This role serves as a bridge between Scrum Master and Senior Scrum Master, expanding responsibilities in
coaching, scaling Agile practices, and fostering alignment within the Agile Release Train (ART). The Scrum Master II ensures strong collaboration between Developers, QA Engineers, Product Owners, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), and other stakeholders to drive high performance and continuous improvement. The Scrum Master II may support one or multiple teams, depending on the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog refinement,
    and sprint reviews, ensuring effective participation and team engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners to ensure backlog items are well-defined, properly prioritized, and
    aligned with business objectives.
  • Coach and mentor Agile team(s) on SAFe principles, Scrum best practices, and Agile mindset to enhance team maturity and self-organization.
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and help resolve impediments and dependencies that impact team performance and delivery.
  • Ensure transparency of team progress by tracking sprint metrics (velocity, burndown, cycle time) and fostering data-driven decision-making.
  • Protect sprint commitments by maintaining a focus on scope, expectations, and sustainable team velocity.
  • Partner with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to align teams with the Agile Release Train’s (ART) cadence
    and Program Increment (PI) objectives.
  • Facilitate and promote collaboration across teams within the ART by participating in Scrum of Scrums, ART
    syncs, and dependency management discussions.
  • Drive Agile maturity by mentoring Agile teams, supporting knowledge sharing, and fostering best practices.
  • Collaborate with Senior Scrum Masters on coaching strategies.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement by analyzing team performance and leading retrospective-driven action plans.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Cotiviti’s business domain and strategic objectives to better align team efforts with organizational goals.
  • Encourage adherence to SAFe and Agile frameworks while supporting team flexibility to meet business objectives.
  • Support Agile initiatives, helping teams embrace Agile values and shift toward a Lean-Agile mindset
  • Facilitate cross-team collaboration within the ART to ensure efficient execution and seamless integration of Agile deliverables.
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Business, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) required; SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) or Advanced Certified Scrum Master (ACSM) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience leading Agile teams, with 2+ years as a Scrum Master in a SAFe or large-scale Agile
    environment.
  • Experience working within SAFe, with an understanding of ART execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor Agile teams.
  • Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Agile lifecycle management tools such as Jira, Rally, or Azure DevOps.
  • Solid understanding of Agile reporting, including burndown charts, velocity tracking, and team health assessments.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and functions, fostering a culture of collaboration and
    accountability.
  • Passion for Agile principles, continuous learning, and driving process improvements.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and SharePoint).

 

Cognitive / Mental Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Able to translate regulatory/clinical requirements into technical solutions and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and a track record of driving initiatives from concept to implementation.
  • Leadership and mentorship capabilities are essential – this role will guide teams and represent Cotiviti’s interoperability expertise both internally and externally, so the candidate should be comfortable taking initiative, “leading without authority” when required, and mentoring others.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

 

Base compensation ranges from $140,000 to $165,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs. This role is eligible for discretionary bonus consideration.

This role is based remotely and all interviews will be conducted virtually.
