Overview

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for executing and/or supporting the day-to-day administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability,

LOA, Wellness, and 401(k) plans.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of our comprehensive employee benefits program encompassing health and welfare, 401(k), and voluntary benefits
  • Build effective relationships with employees and benefits providers to explain plan information, address complex issues, and assist with claims and eligibility questions
  • Correspond with the insurance companies/brokers/benefit providers as appropriate
  • Resolve and/or research employee questions/concerns regarding benefits/insurance (including claims resolution when necessary) for our internal employees
  • Maintain and distribute appropriate benefit documents and forms (paper and/or electronic)
  • Provide support as well as troubleshoot integrations between our benefits administration platform, our payroll/HR information system, and our vendors to ensure accurate information and data flow
  • Support with the implementation of wellbeing initiatives to ensure employee engagement and knowledge of overall wellbeing resources available to employees
  • Assist the benefits team in the administration of employee leaves and ADA accommodations
  • Provide superior, compassionate support to all employees
  • Maintain confidentiality, respect, and good judgment with handling data and having discussions involving sensitive employee information
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting. Required
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned. Required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or similar field, or equivalent experience, required
  • 2-3years’ experience in benefits administration or human resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience administering self-insured and/or fully insured medical plans
  • Experience with voluntary benefits such as critical illness, hospital indemnity, accidents, etc.

  • Knowledge of leave of absence and 401(K) plans
  • Knowledge of benefits compliance

Cognitive/Mental Requirements

  • Effective Communicator. Ability to talk and write with confidence, that showcases competence in benefits and how they are administered. Proactive and thorough communication will be for a wide variety of audiences, including vendors, employees, and management.
  • Good decisions are made based on gathering all the facts, assessing implications, and making sound recommendations for the best outcome.
  • Follow up. Don’t forget to see the resolution through to completion.
  • Critical thinker. Asking the right questions and seeking additional information so that you can analyze the situation and resolve it.
  • Details are important. Pay close attention and catch mistakes, errors, or changes before they snowball into a bigger problem.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects with competing demands.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to provide a dedicated, secure work area.
  • Must be able to provide high-speed internet access / connectivity and office setup and maintenance.

 

Base compensation ranges from $55,000 to $65,000 per year. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
